Construction Scheduling Software
A construction master programme is more than a Gantt. It governs when trades land on site, which pour depends on which inspection, when the fit-out can start, and what gets paid when. VisiLean is a cloud-based scheduling and production-control platform built for main contractors: a live CPM programme imported from Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject or MS Project, with Last Planner lookahead, Takt sequencing and 4D BIM playback on top of the same schedule. One source of truth. Updated from the field.

Why construction scheduling needs more than a CPM Gantt
CPM alone computes dates and float. It does not tell the site team what to pull into this week, release the next crew from a constraint, or show the programme against the actual model. Three structural gaps a scheduling-only tool leaves open:
The gap between the baseline and the week
The master programme is updated monthly. The site runs by the week. Without a Last Planner lookahead sitting on the same data, the two drift apart and the baseline stops describing what the project is actually doing.
Constraints invisible in the Gantt
Missing drawings, late deliveries, inspection sign-off, trade access. A pure CPM view shows an activity as ready when its predecessor is logically finished. Production-control shows it as ready when its real constraints are released.
Programme and model running separate lives
Federated BIM models live in the CDE. The programme lives in P6 or Asta. Linking the two for a 4D view is usually a post-hoc exercise, so planners do it monthly rather than weekly. The design conflicts that would show up early get caught late.
What VisiLean actually does
Live CPM programme
Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject and MS Project imports. Standard CPM engine. Activity IDs, dependencies, calendars and float preserved.
Last Planner lookahead
Six-week lookahead pulled directly from the master programme. Weekly commitments, constraints and PPC captured from foremen and subcontractor leads.
Takt sequencing
Rhythm-based scheduling for hotel, student-accommodation, high-rise residential and fit-out work. One Takt board, one programme, same data.
4D BIM playback
IFC and Revit imports with element GUIDs preserved. Model federation playback drives directly from the CPM schedule, not a parallel export.
LiveSite mobile
Site engineers, foremen and subcontractor leads update task status, raise defects and attach photos from the field. The office sees it live.
Reporting dashboards
Programme progress, PPC trend, reason-code analysis and delay narratives in Power BI dashboards that drop into the standard GC reporting pack.
The four scheduling methods covered on one platform
The four methods below are not competing tools. They each describe a different slice of a construction programme, and a credible platform supports them in combination.
CPM (Critical Path Method)
- Baseline schedule, activity dates and float.
- Dependency logic, calendars, resource loading.
- Primary language for contract reporting and claims.
Deep dive: Critical Path Method guide.
Last Planner System (LPS)
- Six-week lookahead and make-ready planning.
- Weekly commitments and PPC per crew.
- Reason-code analysis on every weekly slip.

Takt Planning
- Rhythm-based zones and wagons for repetitive work.
- Residential floors, hotel room fit-outs, hospital bays.
- Takt board sits on the CPM programme, same data.

4D BIM
- Federated model playback against the live schedule.
- Element GUIDs preserved across revisions.
- Programme drives the model, not a parallel export.

Market-specific editions
The platform underneath is the same. Each market edition adds the contract language, reporting rhythm and standards work the local client expects.
Main contractors running VisiLean on live programmes
Deployments span data-centre, airport, tier-1 residential, hospital, fit-out and infrastructure programmes. Named main contractors value the CPM-plus-Last-Planner integration and the field-evidence rhythm specifically.

What is construction scheduling software?
Construction scheduling software is the tool a main contractor uses to plan, sequence and track the activities that make up a project, from pour sequences to fit-out trades to commissioning. The core engine is almost always Critical Path Method (CPM), which computes activity dates and float from dependencies. Modern platforms layer production-control methods on top (Last Planner for weekly commitments, Takt for repetitive work) and link the programme to a 3D model for 4D BIM playback. VisiLean is a construction scheduling platform that ships all four on one live schedule.
How is construction scheduling software different from generic project management tools?
Generic project management tools (Asana, Monday, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project in isolation) treat work as a task list. Construction schedules are governed by physical constraints: a concrete pour cannot start before the rebar is signed off, drywall cannot start before MEP first-fix is complete. Construction scheduling software models those constraints as predecessors, computes float, surfaces lookahead-ready work, and ties the programme to field evidence (task progress, defects, signed-off tasks). VisiLean imports Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject and MS Project files, so the planner keeps the authoring tool they know while gaining the production-control layer on top.
Which scheduling file formats does VisiLean import?
Primavera P6 (XER), Asta Powerproject and Microsoft Project (MPP) are all first-class imports. Activity IDs, dependencies, calendars and float are preserved. The engine underneath is standard CPM, so dates and float match the authoring tool on import. Round-trip export back to the origin format is supported for teams that need to submit programmes in P6 or Asta for contract reporting.
Does VisiLean support Last Planner and Takt alongside CPM?
Yes, and this is the main reason main contractors run it. The CPM master programme drives a Last Planner lookahead automatically: six-week make-ready, weekly commitments and PPC are captured against the same activities, so the production-control view and the programme view never drift apart. Takt sequencing is first-class for repetitive work like residential, hotel and student accommodation. Teams can run CPM alone, CPM plus Last Planner, or all three.
Is there a market-specific version for UK or India?
Yes. The UK edition at /uk/construction-scheduling-software covers NEC and JCT contract evidence, ISO 19650 BIM alignment and tier-1 GC reporting rhythm. The India edition at /in/construction-scheduling-software covers RERA reporting, Daily Progress Reports in the format Indian clients expect, and project team structures common on Indian sites. The platform underneath is the same.
