Procore alternatives, matched to the reason you are leaving
Procore is a broad general-contractor platform: RFIs, submittals, drawings, quality, safety and financials. Teams rarely look for an alternative because all of that fails at once. They look because one part does not fit: the schedule still lives in P6, lean planning happens on a whiteboard, the project is driven by Autodesk models, or the crews need something lighter. This page matches each of those reasons to the alternative that fits it, and is honest about when the better move is to keep Procore and add a specialist.

Replace Procore, or replace one job Procore does?
This is the decision that shapes everything else. A full replacement means moving RFIs, submittals, drawings and financials, which is a large programme of change. Replacing one job, usually scheduling, is smaller and can be done project by project.
Full replacement fits when
- Most of Procore's modules go unused on most projects
- Another suite already holds your documents and models
- Commercial terms no longer match how you use it
Adding a specialist fits when
- Procore runs GC operations well and the team relies on it
- The pain is the plan: lookaheads, trade flow, slippage
- You want lean planning without moving document control
Five reasons teams look beyond Procore, and what fits each
| The reason | What it looks like on site | The alternative that fits |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduling depth | The master programme is still authored in P6, MS Project or Asta and imported into Procore, so the plan and the site record never quite match. | A scheduling platform that runs the imported master live, such as VisiLean, with Procore kept for GC operations. |
| Last Planner and Takt | Weekly commitments, constraint removal and Takt flow are run on whiteboards, spreadsheets or a separate lean tool that nobody reconciles with the programme. | A platform where the lookahead and the Takt board are views of the same CPM schedule. This is VisiLean's core. |
| Design-led delivery | The project lives in Revit models and drawing sets, and the team wants document control, model coordination and issues in the Autodesk estate. | Autodesk Construction Cloud is the closest like-for-like platform for this job. |
| Owner-mandated document control | The client requires one common data environment for correspondence, transmittals and approvals across every party on the job. | Oracle Aconex, or whichever CDE the owner mandates. |
| A lighter field app | Crews and foremen need plans, punch lists and snagging on a phone, and the full GC suite is more than the job needs. | Fieldwire for jobsite tasks, or PlanRadar for defects, inspections and site reports. |
What VisiLean replaces, and what it does not
VisiLean is the alternative for the first two reasons above. It is a specialist scheduling and production-control platform, so it is worth being precise about its edges.
Replaces: the schedule layer
A live CPM master imported from P6, MS Project or Asta, with forward and backward pass, float and the critical path, updated from site rather than rebuilt each period.
Replaces: the lean side-tools
The Last Planner lookahead, weekly work plan, constraint log and PPC, plus the Takt board, all as views of the same schedule.
Adds: live 4D BIM
The schedule played back against the linked model, connected through Autodesk Forge, BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Does not replace: GC operations
Construction financials stay where they are. RFIs, submittals and drawings in VisiLean are lighter than in Procore, so high-volume teams keep a GC platform for them.
What to check before you switch
- List which Procore modules each project actually uses. The alternative only has to beat Procore at those.
- Find where the master schedule is authored today. If it is P6, MS Project or Asta, the scheduling move is mostly an import.
- Decide who owns each workflow after the change, so no record ends up in two systems.
- Pilot on one live project with the site team, not just the planners. Adoption on site is what decides it.
- Ask every vendor how pricing scales: by construction volume, by user or by project. The model matters as much as the number.

What is the best alternative to Procore?
It depends on which part of Procore you want to replace. For scheduling and lean production control, VisiLean. For design-led delivery and document control, Autodesk Construction Cloud is the closest like-for-like platform. For owner-mandated document control on very large projects, Oracle Aconex. For a lighter field app, Fieldwire or PlanRadar. There is no single platform that replaces all of Procore and is better at every part of it.
Is VisiLean a full Procore replacement?
No. VisiLean replaces the scheduling and production-control layer: the CPM master, the Last Planner lookahead, Takt flow, live 4D BIM and progress from the field. It does not replace construction financials, and its RFI, submittal and drawing workflows are lighter than Procore's. Teams that need those keep Procore or another GC operations platform and add VisiLean beside it.
Why do contractors look for Procore alternatives?
The common reasons are scope and fit rather than quality. Procore is priced against annual construction volume, which can feel heavy for teams that only use part of it. Scheduling is not its core, so many Procore projects still author the master in P6, MS Project or Asta. Lean workflows such as Last Planner and Takt need a second tool. And some teams simply need a lighter field app.
Can we keep Procore and fix scheduling separately?
Yes, and this is often the lowest-risk move. Procore keeps RFIs, submittals, drawings and financials. VisiLean takes the master programme, the lookahead, the Takt board and the 4D view. The two do not need a formal integration to coexist; most teams give each workflow one clear owner and document the few points where workflows cross.
How hard is it to move a schedule out of Procore?
Usually easy, because most Procore projects do not author the master schedule in Procore. It already lives in Primavera P6, MS Project or Asta Powerproject, and VisiLean imports XER, MPP and Asta files directly. Where a schedule was built in Procore's own tool, export it to a standard schedule file and import that.
Fix the schedule without moving everything else
Bring the P6, MS Project or Asta master behind a Procore project and see it run live in VisiLean, lookahead and Takt included.
